Texas Football Recruiting: 5 prospects that could be the next 5-star commit for the Longhorns
The top eight has already been named for five-star Santa Ana, CA, athlete Bru McCoy with Texas listed as one of the final destinations. California has become a fertile recruiting ground for Texas of late. The Horns have one commitment for the 2019 class already out of California in four-star linebacker De’Gabriel Floyd.

And, the Horns also have some other regional commitments in Jake Smith and three-star tight end Brayden Liebrock both out of the state of Arizona. That momentum in that part of the country on the recruiting trail could have also drawn some additional interest out of McCoy.
It’s difficult to tell where McCoy would fit in with Texas on either side of the ball. That’s actually a good thing since he’s so versatile that he could play at wide receiver, linebacker, or safety. McCoy is such a versatile athlete that he’s ranked second in the nation in that group and the second best overall prospect out of California.

Some other schools listed in McCoy’s top eight that could have a legit chance to getting his commitment include OU, UW, USC, and the Oregon Ducks. USC might be the favorite at this point, but Texas could take advantage of that leaning from McCoy this fall. If the Horns knock off the Trojans in Week 3 of the 2018 campaign, it could have the upper hand to land McCoy’s commitment.
