There was never a doubt as to who was the best and most dominant quarterback in program history for the Horns. Vince Young was nearly, and likely should’ve been when it was all said ad done, a Heisman Trophy winner on two separate occasions. Matt Leinart, Reggie Bush, and the USC Trojans took a lot of the limelight away from Young in that regard.

However, the fact that Young became a legit passing threat during his junior season with Texas is what really sparked that team to a run to the 2006 Rose Bowl and BCS National Championship Game. Young and Texas dominated on the way to that national title against USC, including a 2005 Big 12 Championship.

Moreover, it’s likely that Young holds the most memorable individual play in Texas football history on the 4th-and-5 that won the 2006 Rose Bowl. His touchdown run to knock off USC in that game will go down as the best play for the Horns ever. It’s so mammoth in terms of the college football landscape too that the 2006 Rose Bowl is widely considered he greatest game in the history of the sport.

In the 2005 season, Young tossed 26 touchdowns to just 10 interceptions. He also posted double-digit rushing touchdown numbers and more than 1,000 rushing yards in the same year. Young was impossible to stop for opposing defenses that year on his way to being named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year and an All-American.
