Texas had a really tough time getting quality running backs to come to Austin lately. For the 2018 campaign, the Horns are relying on a grad transfer in Tre Watson and a pair of rising sophomores in Toneil Carter and Daniel Young to shoulder the load. Even incoming freshman four-star prospect Keaontay Ingram will be given a pretty big role this fall.

This is where recruiting quality running backs will come into play for the upcoming classes. A good place for Texas to start is a five-star running back and Clovis, CA, native in Kendall Minton. The 2020 recruiting cycle is ripe with running back talent, and Minton is no exception to that.

Texas hit the pipeline to California pretty hard of late. Minton might have recognized that and given the Horns more looks to his final commitment. It would also be nice for a player with the breakaway speed and agility of Minton to join the Horns. Minton’s high school tape is as impressive running between the tackles as any rusher in the nation.

For the 2020 class, Minton is rated as the 10th best prospect in the nation and the second best running back. He’s collected nearly 40 offers altogether, including the one from the Horns. The USC Trojans and Alabama Crimson Tide have recently emerged as the favorites to land him. In-state rival Texas A&M Aggies are also in the running for Minton.
