This might have been huge for the Horns to land a linebacker like Bradenton, FL, native Ayodele Adeoye. It could’ve played a factor in landing Orlando, FL, linebacker Marcus Tillman Jr. for the 2019 Texas football recruiting class. However, Adeoye is the most polished out of any linebacker the Horns signed for the past two years.

There’s a lot of uncertainty for the Horns at rover after senior linebacker Gary Johnson departs following the 2018 season. Johnson could be a potential All-American candidate this year following the departure of former All-American linebacker Malik Jefferson. Since Jefferson declared early for the 2018 NFL Draft, Texas has a gap in the linebacking corps in terms of depth.

Linebacker is a huge position of need right now for the Horns with so many losses to the NFL and lack of eligibility. Texas also had two departures during the later portion of the off-season that hurt the depth at linebacker between Edwin Freeman transferring out and the Demarco Boyd dismissal.

The good news is that Adeoye will get some valuable experience learning behind Johnson this fall. Yet, if something happens to Johnson or any other starting Texas linebacker this year, someone needs to step up. Barring the B-linebacker position, it would likely to Adeoye that’s throw into the fire if injury or off the field issues come about for Texas linebackers during the season.
