Texas Football: Why the Clemson series is a good idea for the Longhorns
Dabo Swinney’s tenure at Clemson
Continuously throughout the tenure of head football coach Dabo Swinney at Clemson, the program has been able to reach new heights. Up to this point, Clemson has now had three appearances in the first four editions of the College Football Playoff. Those three appearances in the Playoff resulted in one national title too.
A lot of this success under Swinney was due to a legendary former Clemson quarterback and an all-time great in Deshaun Watson. Now, Watson is looking to become one of the premier quarterbacks in the NFL in his second year with the Houston Texans. To some degree, Swinney can take a portion of the credit for Watson’s success at the college level.
Swinney really proved his coaching ability the year after Watson departed the program, by leading Clemson to the program’s third Playoff berth. That third Playoff appearance came under the leadership on offense of quarterback Kelly Bryant.
As long as Swinney continues to be the head coach for Clemson, this program should be among the very best in the nation. The college football world will get a glimpse at a big-time matchup between Clemson and one of the biggest rivals of the Horns in the Texas A&M Aggies. Clemson might be coming back to the state of Texas more than a decade later to face the Horns if all works out in these discussions.
