Port Neches High School has yet to trot out on the field for the 2018 season opener. That will come against Silsbee on Aug. 31. Port Neches will be among the latest teams that host a Texas football recruiting commit to start out the 2018 season. Moreover, Port Neches holds the top-ranked dual-threat quarterback in the state for the 2019 cycle.

This means that four-star dual-threat quarterback commit Roschon Johnson still has a few days to prepare before he can show the Texas coaching staff what he can do this fall. Johnson is considered a top 250 prospect in the nation and the fourth best overall dual-threat quarterback in the nation.

He’s as elusive as they come for the quarterback position. Johnson will also be just another athletic signal-caller in line to compete for the starting gig in the coming years. Texas already has a pair of talented freshman quarterbacks on campus between California native Cameron Rising and Oklahoma native Casey Thompson.

Yet, neither of those quarterbacks ranked as high as Johnson as high school prospects. If Johnson can fulfill the promise that he showed as a junior with Port Neches, tossing 35 touchdowns compared to just five interceptions, he could be an immediate impact player for the Horns. He might be the most fun 2019 commit to watch for Texas this fall.
