Texas Football: Tom Herman praises players for response to Maryland loss
Was Herman correct in his postgame assessment?
Yes, Herman was correct in the sense that his team needed to respond in some form or fashion and actually get a win in Week 2. However, judging anything on either side of the ball as a positive consistently throughout the game is something that isn’t realistic. The fact of the matter is that the Horns struggled against vastly inferior competition talent wise.
Texas has all the pieces that should be needed to run through this non-conference slate undefeated, but can’t for some reason. USC is the most difficult opponent that the Horns have among the first three games of the season, by far. The effort is going to have to ramp up for this matchup if Herman wants any chance of heading into Big 12 play with a winning record.
Sophomore quarterback Sam Ehlinger did markedly improve and take better care of the football. The ground game also got more consistent work and you’d have to consider junior wide receiver Lil’Jordan Humphrey’s breakout game a huge positive.
