Texas Football: How many points will the Longhorns need to beat TCU?
What the ground game needs to do
The main emphasis for the Texas offense needs to be on the rushing attack, especially if true freshman running back Keaontay Ingram is set to return from his knee injury this week. Senior Tre Watson and sophomore Daniel Young have also been big to help the Horns to the last two victories that came in the last two weeks.
Texas is going to need a balanced offense to win this game, there’s no doubt about it. The Texas offensive line does have the ability to control the line, but there are still a few key injuries to that group including senior Patrick Hudson. The offensive line and top three running backs are going to be equally instrumental to controlling this game.
Through three games as a team, Texas is averaging more than four yards per carry and is allowing just 3.3. Texas needs to keep that average above the mark of four yards per carry in this game and rack up at least 175 yards as a team. Between Ingram, Young, Watson, and Ehlinger, that should be no problem.
The issue that the Horns could be facing in the backfield is the quickness of the TCU pass rushers and the fact that Gary Patterson might take that part out of this matchup altogether. Texas has to get off to a strong start on the ground so that TCU doesn’t run away with this game early and take away the rushing attack altogether.
