College Gameday Selections for the Longhorns

Last week, the College Gameday panel was very friendly to the cause of the Horns when all four selections went their way over then the No. 22 ranked USC Trojans. Considering the outlook for both USC and Texas coming into last week’s primetime showdown on the Forty Acres, that was a bit of a shock at the very least.

However, Texas football was at least favored over the Trojans for that Sep. 15 matchup. TCU is a field goal favorite over the Horns and Lee Corso, Desmond Howard, and Tim Matheson still selected the boys in burnt orange. The well-known former quarterback of the Ohio State Buckeyes, Kirk Herbstreit, was the only host to pick TCU.

Selecting TCU over Texas has to be a pretty common move for most pundits since Patterson has owned this matchup for the past four years. And, TCU looked pretty good against a top five ranked Ohio State team at AT&T Stadium last week. TCU showing out against Ohio State might be one reason why Herbstreit picked them over the Horns.

Yet, he also seemed to hold confidence in how Patterson would have his team ready for this Big 12 opener. TCU is a clear Big 12 contender this season, and making it through Texas is going to be key on the road for the Frogs to try and return to the Big 12 Championship Game this December. College Gameday still might have slighted the Frogs in their picks.
