5. It doesn’t look like Texas is leaving the top 10 anytime soon

The upcoming slate for the Horns is actually pretty favorable in terms of making a legitimate run for an appearance in the Big 12 Championship Game that will be played on Dec. 1. In Week 7, Texas football is taking on the Baylor Bears at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium while looking for its sixth straight win.

Moreover, with the Horns now ranked inside the top 10 for the first time since 2010, this season is looking more promising than most fans could’ve ever thought possible during the off-season. If not for the season-opening loss to Maryland this year, it’s hard to see where Texas would be. A spot in the top five might even be possible if the loss to Maryland was reversed.

Even after the slight win over Tulsa, Texas was not in a good place and the fears from the fan base were realistic. Herman didn’t seem to have much of a grasp on the current state of the program and the team looked to possibly even go backward from where it was last season. Everything changed with the win over USC the following week, though.

Texas did what it had to move past the loss to Maryland and find greener pastures on the way to Big 12 contention. And, a win is a win in terms of the consideration for the Tulsa game. This locker room is in a great place right now getting through the toughest gauntlet of the 2018 schedule with only one blemish.
