4. This season is already historic

The definition of a successful season traditionally for this Texas football program is usually measured by the fortune in conference play and the relevance in the national picture. Both of those measuring points could be reached this year for the Horns when it’s all said and done if this level of play seen in the past few weeks continues to show up.

In terms of the entire scope of the history of the Texas football program, the start to this season honestly isn’t anything too special. Year in and year out under Mack Brown, the Horns were in national title contention pretty much each season. A lot of that was due to the quarterback play, and Texas seems to have someone under center that could do that.

The list of accolades for this week for the Horns includes the longest winning streak in more than five years, the first top 10 ranking since 2010, and only the third victory against the Sooners since 2013. Some smaller accomplishments included beating TCU for only the second time since Gary Patterson and the Frogs joined the Big 12. That also broke a four-game losing streak to TCU for Texas. Another smaller accomplishment was the first victory over USC since the 2006 BCS National Championship.

Just because there’s so much to be excited about right now for Texas football doesn’t mean that the team should lose focus as to the scope for the entire season. Texas has the potential to get back into legitimate Big 12 Title contention with a shot at the Playoff too. The upcoming slate does give this team a steady challenge after how challenging the last four games were.
