3. Sam Ehlinger is the quarterback of the future for the Longhorns

Even though it’s only six games into this season and he didn’t start the full 2017 campaign as a true freshman, Sam Ehlinger might still be the best quarterback for the Horns since Colt McCoy. Texas was searching for that next man up to take Texas back to national relevance after the departure of McCoy was back in 2009.

Ehlinger is looking exactly like the quarterback to properly usher the Horns into the best years of the Herman era. He is only a sophomore, but it feels like Ehlinger has been around forever on the Forty Acres. With the level of success he’s attaining now, Texas fans could get used to having him around as the signal caller.

At this point, Ehlinger is actually putting up some monster stats including 17 total touchdowns and just two interceptions. Ehlinger is completing more than 65 percent of his passes and has three times the amount of rushing touchdowns compared to what he had last year. The number Ehlinger’s putting up now are similar to what we expected over the course of an entire season.

The thing is that Ehlinger is doing it in a style that is more efficient and productive to the cause of the entire team. He’s making smarter decisions on a regular basis and showing more maturity than he did a season ago. The “it’s all on me” attitude is the reason why Texas lost some games last year that it shouldn’t have.
