5. USC Trojans

Date: Sep. 15, 2018

Location: Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium, Austin, TX

Result: 37-14

We’re just going to go ahead and put the assumption forward that all games on this list are going to be wins for the Horns and Tom Herman. The results over the past two seasons for Texas football were not unfortunate enough to have to include losses in a list that features a pool of 13 victories to choose from.

For something that tends to be out of the ordinary for the Horns this fall, playing the USC Trojans close in the first half of this meeting created an uneasy feeling in the stomach of Texas fans. True freshman USC quarterback J.T. Daniels did hold his own, alongside freshman wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown early on.

Yet, the Texas defense took over quickly in the second half and pushed the Horns to completely obliterate USC. Texas even blocked a field goal that was key to extending the lead as far as the team did in the second half. It looked as if USC might run away with the game themselves in the first quarter with a 14-3 lead at the conclusion.

Texas racked up 34 straight points from there on out to put the Trojans away. This game also saw a number of big and memorable plays including the first career-touchdown catch from true freshman wide receiver Joshua Moore, three clutch field goals, and the first win over USC since the 2006 BCS National Championship Game.
