4. Collin Johnson reaches 1,000 receiving yards

The standout junior wideouts for Texas football are having their biggest seasons on the Forty Acres yet. For the 6-foot-6 NFL prospect Collin Johnson, it’s impressive to have that takeaway after the first seven games since he did post some quality numbers during the 2017 campaign. Johnson racked up more than 750 receiving yards a season ago.

The area that we expected Johnson to improve in came through since he already has three more receiving touchdowns than he had last season. He’s also set to clearly surpass his receiving yard mark from the 2017 campaign. Johnson will need roughly 200 more receiving yards to get past that which should be rather easy.

You have to give some props to Tom Herman for the way that he’s used the pairing of Johnson and the versatile Lil’Jordan Humphrey. Johnson is excelling when he placed in one-on-one coverage on the outside and Humphrey is getting the ball in a multitude of fashions. Humphrey even has one rushing touchdown and one passing touchdown this season.

Using his best players to maximize their individual abilities is the mark of a solid offensive head coach. Even offensive coordinator Tim Beck could have a role in this occurrence, but some would be skeptical to give him credit. Yet, Johnson should continue to excel for the rest of the regular season while posting at least 80-100 receiving yards per game.
