5. Charles Omenihu gets two sacks

No defensive lineman of late for Texas football is hotter than senior defensive end Charles Omenihu. In the 19-14 win over the Kansas State Wildcats on the road a few weeks back, Omenihu really started to take off with two sacks in that game alone. Since then, Omenihu racked up at least one sack in each game.

He also came up big in the Red River Showdown win over the Oklahoma Sooners on Oct. 6. Over the course of the past three games, Omenihu has seven tackles for loss and five sacks. He’s playing at a higher level now than he ever has in his career on the Forty Acres. This is also a great time for him to launch his performance since he’s vying for a push in his draft stock for the NFL.

Omenihu also made the Pro Football Focus Big 12 Team of the Week after posting two sacks in the win for the Horns over the Baylor Bears two weeks back. He’s trending in the right direction now and could soon spark improved play from fellow senior defensive end Breckyn Hager. This pass rush is getting better, but could still use some parity across the line.

For a defensive line that had some trouble getting a good push at the beginning of the season, it’s getting the right players to step up now. Senior defensive tackle Chris Nelson could also play a big role in taking advantage of a down Oklahoma State offensive line. Don’t be too shocked if Omenihu lights up the Pokes in the backfield to the tune of at least two sacks.
