5. Forcing Will Grier into some turnovers

One key area where Texas football holds a big advantage over West Virginia is with turnovers from each quarterback. Senior West Virginia quarterback Will Grier was very turnover prone at times this season in Big 12 play. He even tossed five picks in the two games he played against the Kansas schools.

Since the start of Big 12 play, Grier has six interceptions compared to just one in non-conference games. Figure out how to get Grier to be forced into some mistakes, and the talented Texas secondary can grab a few turnovers in a hurry. That’s going to be one of the only ways to beat Grier and this high-powered West Virginia offense.

Grier had some really hit or miss performances this season. West Virginia has also jumped out to some early leads just to see them fade later in the game. Its wins over the Texas Tech Red Raiders and Kansas Jayhawks fit into that category. The Horns could possibly find another area to exploit if the Mountaineers come out flat later in the game.

Not allowing this extremely potent West Virginia receiving corps to get off an running is significant for the success of the Texas defense. The likes of senior wide receivers David Sills V and Gary Jennings and junior Marcus Simms are posting even bigger numbers than they did during a big 2017 for this offense.
