5. Spot-shooting

The area where Jones is really dangerous for Texas basketball is with his spot-shooting ability which gives him the chance to create offense from anywhere on the offensive end of the floor. With the way that the game has evolved at both the college and professional ranks, having skill sets like that of Jones in the lineup is huge.

Elite pull-up shooters are hard to find on the recruiting trail, but that is exactly what the Horns were hoping for out of Jones. That was one of his best attributes coming out of high school and showed flashes as early as his true freshman campaign. He shoots better than 50 percent from the field in his career and also shot better than 46 percent from beyond the arc in limited action last season.

Jones should only be able to improve his spot shooting from here on out. He had at least a little bit of time during the off-season to work on getting his shooting back when he returned to practice. The fact that he even returned to practice as soon as he did before the start of the season is truly miraculous.

Increased depth and better shooting ability across the board for the Horns should help Jones find more space to knock down his open looks. Texas brought in quite a few freshman that will help space out the court from someone like Jones to get a lot more open looks. He’s at least in a good situation for his shooting ability this season.
