4. Depth in the rotation

With how much depth head Texas basketball coach Shaka Smart has in the mix this season, Jones doesn’t have to worry about rushing back from this difficult off-season he faced. To cap everything off during the preseason, Jones wound up with a toe fracture that kept him out indefinitely. As if he couldn’t have much else bad to happen to him, something did.

The good news is that Smart has a nice mix of returning talent and experience and freshmen potential that he can use immediately. Texas is about 10-12 players deep this season that allows the team to compete at the highest level in the Big 12. Jones is one of those guys that can contribute at a high level when he’s ready to go.

We saw some early flashes from some players like sophomore point guard Matt Coleman, freshman point guard Courtney Ramey, and freshman center Jaxson Hayes. Jones will definitely have the support he needs to get things rolling at some point this season so the coaching staff can have a ton of patience with how he comes along on the floor.

For a player like Jones to succeed, the surrounding talent has to be there especially in the Big 12. Jones can play at a high level with how hard he is to stop on offense. Texas now has a building roster that is enough to see the efficiency for Jones skyrocket when he gets back to a good level of health.
