4. Oklahoma State seemingly stingy only against the Red River teams

We can’t impose final judgment on the resume for the Horns until the very end of the regular season. While we’re likely hoping that Texas football is in good position to find themselves in a top non-New Year’s Six Bowl this season, the resume does matter when the final selection for the postseason is here.

Texas has three losses that can be separated into two different categories right now. The loss in the way back in Week 1 to the Maryland Terrapins will most likely fall into the same category as the loss to Oklahoma State when it’s all said and done. While the loss to West Virginia on a two-point conversion at home in the dying seconds of the game counts as a quality defeat.

Most people consider counting up quality defeats in college football useless. But, when you’re deciding between some potential nine-win teams for postseason placement it can matter more than it may appear during the course of the regular season. Yet, there was one team that Texas football fans should’ve rooted for at all costs in Week 11.

For practical purposes, Oklahoma State beating the Oklahoma Sooners would’ve given the Horns a slightly better chance at working its way back into the Big 12 Championship Game picture. Oklahoma and West Virginia are the two teams that Texas doesn’t have any stake in now.

Oklahoma State nearly knocked off the Sooners (the most hated Big 12 rival for Texas) in Bedlam last week and it could still beat West Virginia to give a little bit of help back to the Horns after it knocked them out of the Big 12 Title window in the first place.
