The perfect combination of circumstances

Texas football got some help from outside of the place you might expect. The Oklahoma State Cowboys defeated the previously No. 9 ranked West Virginia Mountaineers. Oklahoma State got the best of both the Horns and West Virginia at Boone Pickens Stadium this fall. In fact, those are the two biggest wins this year for the Pokes.

However, it didn’t hurt the Horns this time for Oklahoma State to win. Quite the opposite actually. Texas needed a West Virginia and an Iowa State loss to sit in prime position for a spot in the Big 12 Championship Game. Oklahoma State delivered on its end before Iowa State got eliminated from Big 12 Title contention.

There’s a lot on the line for the top three teams in the Big 12 when the Oklahoma Sooners and West Virginia meets up in Morgantown. Week 13 has some massively important games in the final formation of the Big 12 picture. Oklahoma-West Virginia has national implications since the Sooners can still make it into the College Football Playoff.

The best thing for this conference is a rematch of the Red River Showdown in the Big 12 Championship Game. Now, if Texas football wins against the Kansas Jayhawks in Week 13 it’s in the Big 12 Championship Game. It just has to wait and see if it will face Oklahoma or West Virginia on Dec. 1.
