Ideal landing spots for Kliff Kingsbury

There are some rumors that gained steam around the national media since Kingsbury was let go from Texas Tech. Kingsbury could also have his choice between going to the NFL or staying at the college ranks. Some football news site, such as USA Today’s Dallas Cowboys fan site Cowboys Wire, make arguments to place Kingsbury with head coach Jason Garrett.

With his offensive prowess backed by the numbers posted on offense in his time leading Texas Tech, Kingsbury should have a plethora of options if he decides to become an assistant at his next job. He could be linked to some blue blood football programs soon like Texas football and the Michigan Wolverines. Michigan’s offense could use a boost after the embarrassing loss in “The Game” to the Ohio State Buckeyes in Week 13.

However, the chances that Kingsbury stays in the Big 12 should be pretty good if he decides to stay at the Power Five level. It’s hard to tell where he would go next. Due to his schematic differences with other head coaches like Tom Herman and Oklahoma’s Lincoln Riley, he might not be able to go to one of the blue bloods in the Big 12.

Kingsbury might have to adjust his offensive ideals to fit another head coach’s base scheme wherever he goes next. That rings true especially if he goes to the NFL. Three teams that are fan favorites early for Kingsbury if he makes the jump to the NFL are the Cowboys, Kansas City Chiefs, and Cleveland Browns. The option to join the Texas football should still be on his mind, though.
