10. Who isn’t excited for a Red River rematch

Texas football and Oklahoma have the biggest rivalry game, and usually the highest rated on national television, among all that exist in the Big 12. Other rivalry games like Bedlam, the “Revivalry” (TCU-Baylor), and the Sunflower Showdown (Kansas-Kansas State) hold some bearing as to significant rivalries around the conference. None matches up to Red River, though.

This point is tied to the national audience and intrigue that’s delivered from this game in general. Texas is making its way back to the top of the Big 12 and Oklahoma is trying to keep its spot atop the Big 12 standings. There’s not much that this game doesn’t have in terms of the intrigue surrounding the Big 12 Championship Game.

Red River sits up there with other rivalry games like the Iron Bowl, The Game, and Army-Navy, when both Oklahoma and Texas are at the height of national contention. Setting up a high-stakes rivalry game like this makes for one of the most hate-filled and entertaining conference title matchups this weekend.

Moreover, the Big 12 couldn’t hope for much better than these two teams in the title game. If only Texas had hung on against teams like the Oklahoma State Cowboys, West Virginia Mountaineers, and Maryland Terrapins. That would set up a very high-stakes tilt, sending the winner to a nearly guaranteed spot in the College Football Playoff.
