Texas Football: UVA grad transfer G R.J. Proctor fills Longhorns O-Line hole
He hasn’t made a decision yet, but talented graduate transfer offensive guard R.J. Proctor would fill an important need for Texas football.
This is far from a set decision for Texas football to land any graduate transfer on the market yet to start off the 2019 off-season. However, there’s one prominent graduate transfer prospect that Texas football is heavily targeting right now in the former Virginia Cavaliers offensive guard R.J. Proctor. There’s a few offensive line targets for Texas football on the graduate transfer market, but nothing that stuck yet.
A reason for optimism with Proctor is that he was a part of a thriving Virginia ground game this year under head coach Bronco Mendenhall. Virginia was one of the bigger surprises in the ACC this year, and nearly won its division.
For the 2019 season, Texas football is only set to bring back three of its starters along the offensive line. The 2019 Texas football recruiting class doesn’t currently have any guards committed. Of the three offensive lineman in that 2019 Texas football recruiting class currently, all of them are offensive tackles. Adding someone like Proctor to the mix would be huge.
However, Proctor started his collegiate career back during the 2015 campaign so his eligibility will be juiced up in one year. The hope for the Texas Longhorns would be that he makes the instant impact felt by adding former Rice Owls offensive tackle Calvin Anderson as a graduate transfer for the 2018 season.
The impact Texas football received from its two prominent graduate transfers this season showed that this is a temporary solution worth exploring for the Horns again in 2019. The 2019 off-season could be pivotal to filling the offensive line and running back needs that are still left after National Signing Day.
Moreover, the transfer of Proctor comes to the forefront after he announced his transfer from the Virginia football program on Jan. 3.
Reports also indicate that Proctor received a ton of interest from Power Five programs around the nation almost as soon as he announced his intentions to transfer out of Charlottesville, VA. He looks to visit Texas football, the Penn State Nittany Lions, Florida State Seminoles, and potentially more of the more than two dozen programs that already reached out to him.
This 6-foot-4 and more than 300 pound transfer prospect would be the definition of an immediate impact lineman that could provide an even bigger boost to the offensive line than Anderson had in 2018. He has more than two years of starting experience and is a very potent offensive guard when healthy.
Per 247Sports, a few programs already looked to send offers the way of Proctor like Florida State. The Forty Acres seems like a great landing spot for this graduate transfer that is among the hottest names on the market before he takes his talents to the next level in the 2020 NFL Draft.
