4. Texas hits the transfer market harder than last year

Programs like Texas football tend to not like to hit the graduate transfer market too hard each off-season since that’s counter-productive to the picture of long-term player development. Hitting the grad transfer market for temporary fixes a at a frenzy positions that do have long-term solutions in place is still an acceptable venture for head Texas football coach Tom Herman to embark upon.

The institution of the NCAA Transfer Portal proved to be very impactful in its first year. This off-season already has a bevy of names that could be suiting up in new uniforms come next fall. Even Texas football was impacted heavily by the transfer market before the Sugar Bowl concluded with the departing intentions of true freshman quarterbacks Cameron Rising and Casey Thompson.

Some of the bigger names to already hit the NCAA Transfer Portal are Penn State wide receiver Juwan Johnson, Alabama quarterback Jalen Hurts, and Ohio State quarterback Tate Martell. More and more big names are hitting the transfer market each passing day early in the off-season and there’s a laundry list still to come.

Yet, what could be different this off-season for the Horns compared to last is the amount of transfers it also brings in. Texas still has a need to add depth at running back, lines on both sides of the ball, and further down the depth chart at quarterback. If Texas does lose two or three quarterbacks this off-season, we could see three or four transfer joining the team for the 2019 season.
