The chances aren’t good at all at this point, but there are some reasons why fourth-year quarterback Shane Buechele should return to Texas football.

Some news that most were expecting is starting to gain some traction this off-season. The quarterback room for the Texas football program could get really thin entering the 2019 regular season, depending on how the NCAA Transfer Portal shakes out. Texas football now could have three quarterbacks with names in the NCAA Transfer Portal entering spring camp. That could also be three quarterbacks that aren’t with the Texas football program in spring camp.

The first two Texas football quarterbacks to put their names on the transfer market were freshmen Cameron Rising and Casey Thompson. Rising already started the process of visiting other schools, but it doesn’t seem like Thompson has. The recent news did come down that Thompson is planning to stay on the Forty Acres next season.

Now, Texas football could be without junior signal caller Shane Buechele entering the 2019 regular season. Many expected Buechele to leave Texas football this off-season if he wasn’t able to claim the starting job, and now that looks to become a reality. Rising junior quarterback Sam Ehlinger took hold of the starting job this past season and doesn’t look to be letting go until he runs out of eligibility on the Forty Acres.

The dominos keep falling for the transfer market this off-season, largely thanks to the brand new NCAA Transfer Portal. Texas football is getting left in the dust just because it has stability under center. Buechele was the most anticipated quarterback intending to transfer, though.

Here’s a look at the three reasons why the Texas Longhorns experienced quarterback Shane Buechele should stay with the program entering the 2019 season.
