Texas football could be looking to add its first three-star running back recruit, with Georgia native Kobe Pryor, since Daniel Young in 2017.

It’s rare that the Texas Longhorns turn toward an underrated three-star running back on the recruiting trail for answers to long-term positional needs. Anticipating the needs for the 2020 Texas football recruiting class isn’t too difficult given the current roster situation and the shape up of the 2019 cycle with National Signing Day just around the corner.

Texas football is left with a looming positional need at running back, and that is something that won’t go away for the long-term anytime soon. Head Texas football coach Tom Herman and offensive coordinator Tim Beck can build around rising sophomore running back Keaontay Ingram and incoming freshman four-star Buford, GA, signee Derrian Brown. However, the backfield needs more depth beyond the talented duo of Ingram and Brown to bring stability.

The perfect situation for the 2020 Texas football recruiting class is to get at least two running backs with diverse skill sets that could add value alongside Brown and Ingram. Texas football sending out an offer to three-star Cedartown, GA, running back Kobe Pryor on Jan. 30 could bring that piece to the 2020 recruiting class to round things out.

Between Jan. 29 and 30, Pryor received a barrage of offers mostly from schools closer to the state of Georgia. He had five offers in those two days that came from the NC State Wolfpack, Duke Blue Devils, East Carolina Pirates, and South Carolina Gamecocks. Those five offers brought his total to 13. The growing offer sheet is a sign that the recruiting ranking for Pryor might be unjust and he could be rising in relevance soon.

A few of the other significant offers Pryor holds are from the West Virginia Mountaineers, Auburn Tigers, and Purdue Boilermakers. Some interest from big SEC schools like the Georgia Bulldogs and Florida Gators could be on the horizon for Pryor if the meteoric rise of attention in his recruitment continues.

This is good on Herman and the Texas football coaching staff to jump on the recruitment of Pryor before more blue bloods get involved. Texas football could have a leg up to land an under-the-radar Georgia native, just like it did with Brown for the 2019 recruiting cycle.

Moreover, what Pryor could bring to the table for the Horns is a sizable 6-foot-0 and 205 pound frame that would make him one of the bigger running backs on the roster. Pryor is very quick off the first cut and also breaks tackles at will. He’s the type of running back that could be a force picking up a steady five or six yards per carry consistently.

Pryor has some high school highlights that is among the more impressive that you could see from a three-star running back. He also has the ability to play on both sides of the ball. Pryor plays in the front seven for Cedartown High School. This could be a big get for Texas football if his interest in the Forty Acres holds.
