1. Big 12 Tournament wide open

If we learned anything from the weekend so far in the Big 12 for college hoops, it’s that the conference tournament could be wide open. Even the Big 12 regular season title is far from being decided since the Kansas Jayhawks have yet to close things out like usual. This wasn’t business as normal for head coach Bill Self in 2018-19.

The Oklahoma Sooners and Texas Tech took care of business as expected on March 2, but Iowa State and the Oklahoma State Cowboys surprised some people. Iowa State was the favorite heading into this showdown with Texas basketball, but fell way short of expectations.

Moreover, Oklahoma State put a big scare in the Jayhawks on this day with a near massive upset pulled at Gallagher-Iba Arena in Stillwater. A loss to Oklahoma State would likely derail any hopes Kansas would have of winning the Big 12 regular season title and getting a high seed on Selection Sunday for the NCAA Tournament.

If the season ended today, Texas Tech would take home the Big 12 regular season title. But, Kansas State and Kansas are right there with Texas Tech and the season could come down to the final set of games next week. The next seven days will be pivotal in the Big 12, and the Horns are somehow still within striking distance of a five-seed in the conference tournament.
