Texas Football: 3 most important 2020 February offers
Entering the Early Signing Period last December, one of the bigger needs for Texas football on the defensive side of the ball was at linebacker. But, Texas was able to bring in four linebacker signees in the 2019 recruiting class to add to an already talented group at the position. Youth and inexperience are the main issues at linebacker for the Horns, not talent.
However, the Horns can add even more talent at linebacker with a solid haul at the position on the recruiting trail for the 2020 class. A good start would be landing the elite five-star St. John’s College and Washington D.C. outside linebacker Mekhail Sherman. He is one of a handful of five-star linebackers the Horns offered thus far.
The pursuit that Sherman has off the line of scrimmage and his insane range are valuable tools that would definitely come in handy under Texas defensive coordinator Todd Orlando. Sherman ranks as the nation’s No. 13 2020 high school prospect and the second best outside linebacker. This is a stacked recruiting class at linebacker, and Sherman would be a huge pull to get onto the Forty Acres.
The 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions do favor Sherman to land with first-year head coach Ryan Day and Ohio State. It’s still fairly early in his recruitment and some other programs like Texas could creep into the conversation this off-season. Some of his other significant offers came from the Alabama Crimson Tide, Clemson Tigers, Penn State Nittany Lions, Georgia, and Oklahoma.
