Impact for Caden Sterns

Missing Sterns is hard for this defense for the Texas football program due to the pure immediate impact he was able to have for this side of the ball as a true freshman. With how quickly Sterns filled a big role for the Horns defense this past season, he was expected to be one of the vocal leaders for the secondary during spring camp.

Hopefully, this injury won’t cause Sterns to miss any extended period of time. He was already held out for a good portion of the Big 12 Championship Game loss to the Oklahoma Sooners and the Sugar Bowl victory over the Georgia Bulldogs. The origination of that injury was of the lower body, so this trend is somewhat concerning.

This knee injury for Sterns look to be of similar nature to what he had that limited him against both Oklahoma and Georgia in December and January. Per a 247Sports report, Sterns “tried to play” in the Sugar Bowl against Georgia, but the knee injury he suffered against Oklahoma in the conference title game was too much to bear.

However, there are a few key names to watch that could step up in the wake of this Sterns injury. The first to watch is the rising redshirt junior safety Chris Brown, who does have some actual playing time during his time on the Forty Acres. Some other names to watch would mostly be on campus through summer and fall camp, with the likes of five-star safety Tyler Owens and four-star Chris Adimora.
