2. Oregon State Beavers

A program that recruited linebackers weirdly well of late is the Oregon State Beavers. The top rated signee in the 2019 Oregon State signing class was three-star linebacker Omar Speights. Granted Oregon State hasn’t recruited well in general for the past few cycles. Oregon State finished barely inside the nation’s top 2019 recruiting classes.

A former assistant under head coach Chris Petersen and the Washington Huskies, current Oregon State head coach Jonathan Smith is back at his alma mater and trying to rebuild his program in the PAC-12. Some of Oregon State’s best commits/signees in the 2019 and 2020 recruiting classes are linebackers.

Bringing in a linebacker like Townsend from the Texas football program that could make an immediate impact, fill a need, and mentor some young talents, all benefits the Beavers. Oregon State could use added depth at linebacker too beside rising junior Shemar Smith and redshirt sophomore Hamilcar Rashed.

Oregon State was also one of the more than dozen programs that offered Townsend in the first place. That is a commonality between each of the three potential landing spots is that all three offered him out of Ridge Point a few years back. Oregon State would be the oddball destination that actually could be a smooth transition for Townsend.
