Texas Football: 7 teams we’d love to see Longhorns face in 2019
7. Georgia Bulldogs
Texas football is scheduled for a home-and-home series against the Georgia Bulldogs well into the future. Georgia is just one of a host of big time SEC opponents that the Longhorns have on tap for the next 15 years. Texas just scheduled the Florida Gators for the 2030 and 2031 seasons, which is still so far away.
However, this would be an intriguing matchup since the Longhorns and Dawgs just met in the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 1 of this year in a New Year’s Six Bowl. That game saw then sophomore Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger get the best in a key showdown against another talented signal caller in Georgia’s Jake Fromm.
Both Texas and Georgia should be contenders to win their respective conferences, the Big 12 and SEC, and could both be top eight teams in the nation heading into fall camp. It will be interesting to see where the AP Poll and Coaches Poll places the Longhorns and Dawgs at the outset of the regular season.
Texas and Georgia have met five times in each program’s history. Those five games resulted in four wins for Texas, including the decisive Sugar Bowl victory to cap off the 2018 campaign. Georgia would surely be out for revenge and head coach Kirby Smart would be looking to rake in a huge non-conference victory if Texas was on the schedule this fall.
