Texas Football: Best Elite 11 scenes from Ehlinger, Hurts, and more
D’Eriq King, Houston
A surprise showing in the Elite 11 Finals over the weekend was the Houston rising star quarterback that is entering his fourth-year in college. King totaled just six interceptions last season and 50 touchdowns in what was a true breakthrough campaign with head Texas football coach Tom Herman and his former team.
What was really cool for these top 20 quarterbacks in the Elite 11 was the fact that King showed off his mobility and big arm in a group of a handful of undersized players. Quarterback recruits like Arkansas Razorbacks commit and four-star Highland Park pro-style Chandler Morris and West Virginia Mountaineers three-star commit Garrett Greene should benefit from seeing King in action.
King also showed more consistency during his throwing drills and the outdoor “Pro Day” work than Patterson did. It should be a big final year with Houston for the 5-foot-11 dual-threat Group of Five superstar King. Totaling 50 touchdowns is a big deal, but he could explode this year in the first season with former West Virginia head coach Dana Holgorsen at the helm.
