Texas Football: Road map to topping every team in Big 12 recruiting rankings
1. Oklahoma Sooners
National Class Ranking: 14
The overwhelming margin between Oklahoma and the 2020 Texas football recruiting class right now could be a sign of the battle that is to come entering fall camp. Oklahoma and Texas were both very active on the recruiting trail thus far during the offseason.
The summer was mostly kind to the Longhorns in terms of commitments in the past 45 days. But Oklahoma had an even more fruitful offseason under head coach Lincoln Riley. The crown jewel of the 2020 recruiting class for the Sooners thus far is five-star running back Jase McClellan.
A dream scenario for the Longhorns would be to stack depth at running back in this recruiting class by flipping McClellan from the Sooners and landing five-star Tucson, AZ, rusher Bijan Robinson. McClellan, Robinson, and three-star running back commit Jaden Hullaby would be possibly the nation’s top 2020 trio at the position.
Texas finished above Oklahoma in the national class rankings for the past two cycles. Getting past them for a third will take one or two five-star pledges before the Early Signing Period arrives. Oklahoma is ahead in the national class rankings and in quantity right now. Getting the first five-star commit of the 2020 class would help get Texas a lot closer to Oklahoma.
