The urgency surrounding a big time safety target for the 2020 Texas football recruiting class has to do with the stage of his recruitment and commitment decision and the high school he comes from. Four-star Duncanville High School safety Chris Thompson Jr. is entering his senior season with Texas commit Ja’Quinden Jackson as his teammate.

This is the perfect time for the Longhorns to make a big push for Thompson Jr., who ranks firmly inside the nation’s top 100 2020 high school prospects. He has to be the top safety target for Texas by now.

According to a report from Burnt Orange Nation, Thompson Jr. is drawing near his commitment decision and looks to be keeping the Longhorns at or near the forefront among his top schools. The four finalist schools for Thompson Jr. encompass Texas, Ohio State, Auburn, and USC.

The 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions gives the Longhorns a big edge to land the commitment of Thompson Jr. Getting a commitment from Jackson should only increase the chances for Texas to nab Thompson Jr. to kick off the safety pledges in this class.
