Running Back: Jonathan Taylor, Wisconsin

Comparisons between quarterbacks and running backs for the Heisman Trophy becomes ever-more difficult with the way college football shifted in style of play within the past decade. Running backs really have to post almost record-setting numbers to even become a Heisman finalist nowadays.

If there was any rusher in the Big Ten that could stay in contention the entire season for the Heisman Trophy, if he stays healthy, is Wisconsin Badgers superstar Jonathan Taylor. Last season, Taylor racked up 2,194 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns. He now has more than 4,000 rushing yards and 29 touchdowns in his two year collegiate career.

Where Sam Ehlinger holds an edge:

The path to winning the Heisman Trophy for Ehlinger with this Texas football team does encompass the dual-threat portion of his skill set. Like Oklahoma’s Kyler Murray last season, the rushing stats are a big part of how the Heisman voters break down the final decision for who takes home these honors. Texas also has a much clearer path toward national contention than Wisconsin.
