Texas Football: 3 overarching Big 12 Media Days storylines
1. Star power from the Texas football program
Oklahoma and Texas football posted the most star power among players representing any Big 12 team at media days. Texas brought six representatives with them this year for Big 12 Media Days. Although that is to be expected with the two top projected team in the Big 12 standings this fall, it is fun to see.
That list of six players included rising junior quarterback Sam Ehlinger, senior wide receiver Collin Johnson, senior center Zach Shackelford, senior safety Brandon Jones, senior defensive end Malcolm Roach, and senior linebacker Jeffrey McCulloch. Those six players bring a lot of star power to the table for the Longhorns.
Texas brought six players to Big 12 Media Days this season compared to last year where only four appeared alongside Herman. The group that Herman brought with him will also draw a lot more attention from the media and fans. Ehlinger in and of himself is potentially the most polarizing player in the Big 12.
Not only was there a lot of star power present among the representatives for the Longhorns at Big 12 Media Days, there were plenty of NFL Draft prospects. Johnson is in contention to be a first round pick at wideout, as Jones is at safety. Shackelford and Roach could also become middle-round caliber NFL Draft prospects next year.
