Pick Analysis. Running Back. Travis Etienne. 2. player. 879. Scouting Report. Junior

A running back that will truly difficult for Ingram to compete with in the race to win the Doak Walker Award honors will be the star rising junior for the Clemson Tigers Travis Etienne. Averaging more than 8.0 yards per carry last season and amassing more than 35 career rushing touchdowns in his first two years in college isn’t a feat everyone could accomplish.

In 2018, Etienne was an absolute monster with more than 1,600 rushing yards and an insane 26 total touchdowns that doubled what he posted as a freshman. Clemson’s rise to win the College Football Playoff National Championship Game over the Alabama Crimson Tide was largely due to what Etienne brought to the table.

The quarterback-running back duo of rising sophomore Trevor Lawrence and Etienne could be the very best in the nation for this fall. Lawrence is a stud and already looks to have the makings of a future No. 1 overall NFL Draft pick. Etienne could be a first round pick when it’s all said and done too for 2020 or 2021.

Where Ingram could hold the edge:

Both Ingram and Etienne face uphill battles in getting more touches when they’re hot than Ehlinger and Lawrence. Texas and Clemson both will thrive off the quarterback and receiver play first and then the running backs second. If Ingram does get a heavier workload as the starter this fall, he could have a bigger rise in terms of production than Etienne.
