A true miss for Texas football recruiting in a past class (2014 in this case) is the former LSU Tigers All-American safety and current New York Jets star Jamal Adams. The true talent that Adams brought to the table shined through when he was selected sixth overall in the 2017 NFL Draft.

As a top safety in the NFL now, Adams exceeded the massive expectations he had heading into the LSU football program back in 2014. He only stuck around for three seasons, but he surely would’ve bolstered what was a hapless Texas secondary at times under Charlie Strong.

Adams finished his collegiate career with 18.0 tackles for loss, 5.0 interceptions, 2 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries, and 209.0 total tackles. He was also an All-SEC honoree during his sophomore and junior seasons with the Tigers.

Coming into college, Adams was a true blue chip prospect that ranked as the No. 2 safety in the nation for the 2014 recruiting cycle. He wasn’t the most highly touted defensive back recruit that LSU landed in the past five years, but he might’ve turned out the best. This Carrollton, TX, native had a trio of schools that seemingly had his decision narrowed down to LSU, Texas, and the Florida Gators.
