2. Landing the much needed 5-Star 2020 commitment

What this 2020 Texas football recruiting class was sorely missing up until the point that Robinson committed on Friday was a five-star prospect. Robinson is not only a five-star commitment, but he’s ranked among the top 20 2020 high school prospects in the nation and as the No. 3 running back.

A position of need for the Longhorns was filled as the 2020 class got its first truly elite talent in the process. Robinson is also a game-changer for the Longhorns since he can keep that pipeline of talent rolling in from the western portion of the country. Texas is establishing a nice pipeline in the state of Arizona at the skill positions between landing Robinson and former four-star elite wide receiver and the Gatorade National High School Football Player of the Year Jake Smith.

Yet, Texas still has a long way to go for this 2020 recruiting class to piece it all together. Still ranking outside the top 15 2020 classes in the nation gives Herman a big challenge ahead. Oklahoma and the Texas A&M Aggies are both ranked ahead of the Longhorns, which should give the coaching staff added motivation on the recruiting trail.

Texas doesn’t necessarily need to haul in a bunch of five-star talent throughout the rest of this recruiting cycle, but hopefully this is the final spark this group needed. Could another five-star or highly touted four-star pledge be on the way for Texas soon?
