A key target of the 2019 Texas football recruiting class that head coach Ed Orgeron and LSU snagged away is the ultra-talented five-star defensive back and Louisiana native Derek Stingley. As one of the top five rated 2019 high school prospects in the nation, Stingley comes onto campus at LSU with a ton of hype and excitement.

The problem with Stingley is getting enough early playing time to make a big impact by the time Week 2 arrives. There’s a better chance that Stingley gets early playing time in the other three games in the first four weeks of their regular season slate than there is against the Longhorns.

The other three games early in the 2019 campaign for LSU includes the Georgia Southern Eagles, FCS Northwestern State Demons, and SEC opener against the Vanderbilt Commodores. But Stingley has enough talent and maturity in his skill set to get Orgeron to consider throwing him into the cornerback rotation against the deep Texas receiving corps.

What makes the matchup between Stingley and the Texas receiving corps even more interesting is the fact that he would probably square off against a young wideout. Texas could put a receiver like true freshman Jake Smith or second-year wideout Joshua Moore.
