Texas Football: 5 best offenses the Longhorns face in 2019
4. LSU Tigers
The LSU offense won’t be nearly as fearsome when facing Texas football as the defense. But the LSU offense under the direction of head coach Ed Orgeron will have more weapons to work with than he seemingly did ever before in Baton Rouge entering the 2019 campaign.
I’ll start with senior quarterback and the former Ohio State Buckeyes transfer Joe Burrow. LSU didn’t have near as much hype surrounding a proven starting quarterback entering any regular season in the past five years as Burrow does now. Last season, Burrow racked up well over 3,000 total yards and 23 total touchdowns compared to just five interceptions.
The offense was actually rather efficient under Burrow last season. But the ground game will be the real challenge for defensive coordinator Todd Orlando. Losing nearly every starter in the front seven will make it hard for Orlando to put all the pieces together to stop this fearsome LSU rushing attack.
The starter for LSU at running back in Week 2 against the Longhorns should be junior Clyde Edwards-Helaire. But there could very well be three or four players in the LSU running back room that eclipsed the 600-yard mark by season’s end.
Moreover, a rarity finally came through for the LSU offense by ranking among the top 40 programs in the nation in points per game, with more than 32.
