Texas Football: 5 best offenses the Longhorns face in 2019
2. Texas Tech Red Raiders
There’s a thin margin between two offenses that Texas football will face in Big 12 play in the 2019 regular season. Oklahoma State and the Texas Tech Red Raiders both gave this Longhorns defense fits last season. Texas Tech ranked among the top 20 offenses in the nation last season in both points per game (37.3) and total yards per game (485).
The difference between Texas Tech’s offense last season and what should be ahead this fall is the starting quarterback against the Longhorns. This coming season, the Red Raiders will be hoping that sophomore standout quarterback Alan Bowman can stay healthy throughout. Last season, a scary injury ravaged his freshman campaign when he suffered a collapsed lung.
This Texas Tech offense should also have a new look under former Utah State Aggies head coach Matt Wells. The tenure of Kliff Kingsbury as the head coach in Lubbock ended during the offseason. At one point, he took the offensive coordinator job with the USC Trojans before taking the head coaching position with the Arizona Cardinals in the NFL.
Yet, Bowman will be joined by a solid group of skill position players and a very experienced offensive line that should more steadier in front of him this season. The highlights of the skill position players should be redshirt junior wide receiver T.J. Vasher and sophomore running back Ta’Zhawn Henry.
