Texas Football: 3 most concerning Longhorns fall camp injuries
1. Kirk Johnson/Keaontay Ingram
Position: Running Back
Texas football wouldn’t be able to do much to keep the balance alive on the offensive side of the ball if the running game is going to be without sophomore Keaontay Ingram and redshirt senior Kirk Johnson. While Ingram is expected to be back in the mix for the Louisiana Tech game, Johnson might not be.
In the case of Johnson, it is sad to see him continuing to deal with injury concerns in fall or spring camp. Johnson just couldn’t stay healthy in his five years on the Forty Acres thus far. He is expected to miss at least one or two weeks of the upcoming regular season which could halt his progress from the start.
Ingram has a knee issue that limited him in practice for a bit, but he’s already back up and running in full pads. The problem with the Ingram knee injury is the fact that it can be so easy to tweak in the future. Constant lower-body injuries for Ingram in his first two years on campus is not a great sign by any means.
The Longhorns have to be concerned about the thinning depth in the running back room. A true freshman running back in Jordan Whittington can’t shoulder this entire load himself if Ingram is going to have nagging lower-body issues.
