If Texas football is to take another step forward on offense this coming season, then the efforts of senior wide receiver Devin Duvernay will need to reach new heights. In terms of production, Duvernay didn’t really live up to his billing until he broke through in portions of the 2018 season.

Duvernay did set career marks in receiving yards and touchdowns last season. He finished last season with 41 catches for 546 yards and four touchdowns. He more than doubled his previous high for catches in a season too.

With Lil’Jordan Humphrey gone to the NFL, this is the opportunity that Duvernay was looking for to finally get a good amount of targets in the Texas passing game. Humphrey took a lot of the touches away out of the slot and in intermediate routes that Duvernay could’ve got last year.

There were also a lot of times where Sam Ehlinger looked Duvernay’s way since he was a very reliable target in third down conversions as a junior. That reliability factor and just how quick and agile Duvernay is out of the slot could make him an even more valuable target for Ehlinger this coming season.
