3. Oklahoma State Cowboys

The opposition that Texas football gets in Week 4 will be difficult for Herman to get his team to the next level. Oklahoma State brings an elite level of skill position talent to the table between star junior wide receiver Tylan Wallace and redshirt sophomore running back Chuba Hubbard.

The loss to LSU through the non-conference portion of the schedule leaves little to no margin for error for the Longhorns. A loss to Oklahoma State not only puts the Longhorns in a tough position but the heat on Herman could reach a new level. No matter how much success he brings the Longhorns, losing to the first two Power Five opponents on the schedule is never a good look for the burnt orange.

Oklahoma State comes into the 2019 regular season with cloudy expectations coming off mixed results from last season. Wins over West Virginia and Texas last year, and almost Oklahoma, were overshadowed by losses to teams in much worse situations like TCU, Baylor, and Kansas State.

We’ll see right out of the gates in Big 12 play how Herman fair against the stingier of the opposition the rest of the way. Gundy was never a friendly presence on the schedule for the Longhorns and the hope is that the coaching staff is finally ready to turn it all around this coming weekend.
