Texas Basketball: 2010’s All-Decade Longhorns Team
Shooting guard: Jordan Hamilton (2009-2011)
14.5 PPG, 5.7 RPG, 1.8 APG, 23.3 PER, 9.4 WS
The only consensus All-American to come out of the Texas basketball program in the last decade is the 6-foot-7 former star shooting guard Jordan Hamilton. He was named a consensus All-American following the end of his sophomore season, in 2010-11. Hamilton also received honors with the 2011 Big 12 All-Tournament Team and All-Big 12 from the regular season.
Hamilton is also one of the career leaders in the last decade for the Longhorns in win shares per 40 minutes (.231). He was clutch in Big 12 play, posting .209 win shares per 40 minutes, over the course of his two seasons on the Forty Acres.
Going purely in terms of win shares, Hamilton has a sparkling resume for playing just two seasons under Barnes’ direction.
Hamilton’s sophomore season with the Longhorns was awesome, as he posted 18.6 points per game, 7.7 rebounds, and 2.1 assists while shooting around 49 percent from the field and 39 percent from beyond the arc.
Possibly the biggest reason why Hamilton is the Texas shooting guard for this All-Decade list is the fact that he had the highest number of win shares by any player in any individual season over this span of time (6.7 in 2010-11).
In the first round of the 2011 NBA Draft, Hamilton was the No. 26 overall pick of the Dallas Mavericks. His draft rights were then traded to the Denver Nuggets. He played with the Nuggets through 2014, when he was traded to the Houston Rockets. That’s pretty much where his NBA career ended as we know it today.
There was one brief stint in 2015 with the Los Angeles Clippers, though.
