Texas Football: 5 biggest 2020 NFL Draft prospects to watch in Alamo Bowl
5. Brandon Jones, Texas
Position: Safety
Year: Senior
The Texas football player that is set to potentially be the first off the board in the 2020 NFL Draft is senior star safety Brandon Jones. But there’s a lot of mixed projections and reviews for Jones when it comes to this draft class of safeties. Walter Football ranks him as the No. 17 safety in this 2020 class, which projects him out as a fourth-to-sixth round pick.
As the glue of the Texas secondary this season, the 6-foot and 205 pound Jones will be a very versatile defensive back at the next level. Raw talent, ball skills, and run stopping are no problem for Jones. He needs to prove that his speed and pass coverage are up to par with the top safeties in this class when he takes to the field in the Alamo Bowl.
4. Malcolm Roach, Texas
Position: Defensive End
Year: Senior
A player that saw his draft stock steadily drop over the course of the last two seasons is the senior defensive end Malcolm Roach. After a solid freshman campaign, under former head coach Charlie Strong, where Roach registered eight tackles for loss and three sacks, he hasn’t really been the same.
The 6-foot-3 and 290 pound Roach has the versatility to play as either an edge rusher/outside linebacker or smaller defensive end at the next level. But he needs to get a solid finish to his college career to solidify himself as worthy of a late round selection come next spring. He finished up the regular season with 7.5 tackles for loss and two sacks.
