467. Final. 82. 473. 66

All the way back on Nov. 21, Texas basketball couldn’t get it going against the Georgetown Hoyas in the 2K Empire Classic at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Georgetown head coach Patrick Ewing got his team going at the arena he used to call home, with the New York Knicks as a star center in the NBA.

When the Longhorns lost to Georgetown, junior guard Matt Coleman was still flying high with his hot start. He posted a team-high 22 points to go along with three rebounds, two assists, and two steals. But Coleman didn’t get much help as he was the only Longhorn scoring in double figures against the Hoyas.

Rarely did the Texas defense allow as much on defense as they did against Georgetown in this game. Contrary to the just one player for the Longhorns that finished up in double-digits scoring, Georgetown had four in their starting five alone. Standout sophomore guard Mac McClung led his team in scoring with 19 points to go along with three rebounds, one assist, and two steals.

Former NC State Wolfpack transfer center Omer Yurtseven helped the Hoyas command the boards and protect the rim. Yurtseven finished up with 10 points, four boards, and two blocks. Georgetown dominated down low, as they did in most aspects of the game.

At least the Longhorns were able to rebound and beat the Cal Golden Bears in the third place game to round out the 2K Empire Classic.
