Names that were excluded, but are still worth watching

The Texas football program could actually wind up with six or seven names called during the three days that make up the 2020 NFL Draft. The four that were invited to the NFL Combine might be the first ones selected, but there are still other names worth watching during the scouting process at other showcases and the Pro Day.

Zach Shackelford, Center

The first and most important name to watch that wasn’t invited to the NFL Combine is the former standout senior starting Texas center Zach Shackelford. I would have to project Shackelford out as a late round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Lower-body injury concerns would ultimately be what holds him back.

Jeffrey McCulloch, Linebacker

Another case of a bad string of injuries for a former Longhorn went to the ex-senior starting linebacker Jeffrey McCulloch. There could be a good role for McCulloch at the next level, but he’s going to have to show off his range and versatility during the scouting process, which is made more challenging since he’s not invited to the NFL Combine.

Parker Braun, Offensive Guard

Offensive linemen could be abundant off the Forty Acres in the next couple years. Hopefully the way head coach Tom Herman and offensive line coach/co-offensive coordinator Herb Hand are developing this position group pays off in the long run. But the former Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets multi-time All-ACC offensive guard Parker Braun had an up and down one year in Austin, but he still brings a lot of strength and sure fundamentals to the table.
