3. Jordan Whittington, Redshirt Freshman

Current Position: Running Back

Potential Change: Wide Receiver

The most notable position switch that happened originally in spring camp last year for the Texas football program was moving the former five-star Cuero wide receiver signee Jordan Whittington to running back. But a sports hernia injury wound up holding Whittington out for longer than anticipated. He only finished the 2019 season playing in one game.

With that in mind, Whittington only had two rushing attempts last season for 17 yards and no touchdowns. He got to play in a bit of the season opening win over the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs at home at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium. But that was it before Whittington would miss the rest of his freshman campaign due to nagging injury troubles.

The 6-foot-1 and 215 pound Whittington came onto the Forty Acres with all sorts of hype. His senior season with the Cuero High School football program was nothing short of tremendous. Whittington was named the offensive and defensive MVP of the Texas High School state title game in 2018.

However, the move from running back back to the original position he mainly played at coming out of high school makes a lot of sense for Whittington. Texas loses both senior star wide receivers Collin Johnson and Devin Duvernay. Fellow senior wideout and speedster John Burt runs out of collegiate eligibility too.
